WHITEHOUSE, Texas — Folks in the city of Whitehouse woke up with a little extra pep in their step on Monday, after hometown hero Patrick Mahomes once again did his thing on the world’s biggest stage.
"We’ll never get tired of it, we will never take it for granted, it’s amazing every time it happens, and it’s unbelievable every time it happens," Whitehouse Mayor James Wansley said.
It’s become almost a yearly tradition in the city of Whitehouse. In three of the past five years, the Kansas City Chiefs and the town’s very own Patrick Mahomes have been named Super Bowl champions.
Well before Mahomes was setting the NFL world on fire, he was a proud Whitehouse Wildcat.
"So it’s a great experience for us, and I know it’s a great experience for him, but we’re super happy to be kind of a small part of the story of what he’s been able to do," Wansley said.
While representing his hometown and garnering so much on-field success, Whitehouse has slowly shifted from Cowboys to Chiefs country. Stores like 1st Class Design and Dancewear have already gone to work to celebrate Mahomes.
"We’re very superstitious around here, so this wasn’t put together until just today. You know, didn’t want to put anything bad into the air," 1st Class Design and Dancewear assistant graphic designer Zachary Boynton said.
Mahomes now has three Super Bowl victories and three Super Bowl MVPs all at the age of 28.
There has even been some online discussion over the last few days in Whitehouse to declare Mahomes to be the greatest of all time.
"You know some people are doubting whether or not he’s the GOAT, and if you look, he’s been a starter for six seasons, he has six AFC championships, he’s been to the Super Bowl five times now, has three rings… What he’s done by the time he’s 28 years old and where he’s at now, no other quarterback has done it in the history of the game," Whitehouse resident who was in attendance at the Super Bowl Brian Feiden said.
Whether you’ve got Mahomes as the GOAT right now or not, there’s no denying what he accomplished in his career thus far has been incredible - and it all started in East Texas.
