East Texas teen killed, man injured in Rusk County crash

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers are investigating the March 15 crash

TATUM, Texas — An East Texas teen is dead and a man was hospitalized following a two-vehicle crash in Rusk County.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, on Friday, March 15, troopers responded to a wreck on State Highway 149, near Tatum.

DPS reports a Chevrolet pickup, driven by Jerry Brantley, 17, of Tatum, was stopped at the intersection of FM 782 and SH 149. Officials say a Ford pickup, driven by Colby McDaniel, 23, of Kilgore, was traveling southeast on SH 149. 

Per DPS, the Chevrolet turned left, failing to yield to the Ford. The Ford struck the Chevrolet on the left side.

Brantley was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. McDaniel was taken to a Longview medical center for treatment.

The investigation is ongoing.
