Henderson County deputies searching underneath home in connection with 2009 cold case of missing 15-year-old girl

Hillhouse said the property is the same spot that Cannon was reported missing back in 2009.

HENDERSON COUNTY, Texas — Henderson County deputies are searching a property outside of Athens in connection with a cold case involving a teenager who has been missing since 2009.

Sheriff Botie Hillhouse said the sheriff's office received a tip Thursday saying that Heather Cannon was buried on a property on Highway 175 outside of Athens toward Eustace.

"We obtained a search warrant, and then came out here and then just start going to the area, the specific area that we were instructed that she would be and just start digging."  Hillhouse said.

According to Hillhouse, the tip stated that Cannons body would be under the mobile home that was on the property. Hillhouse stated the home caught fire over a year. Officials started removing the remainder of the home on Friday.

Hillhouse said the property is the same spot that Cannon was reported missing back in 2009. She was 15 years old when she was last seen. Nothing has been recovered yet.

"This isn't the first time we've been through this property and other properties in Henderson County with a search warrant looking for her." Hillhouse said. "You know, we want to bring closure to this, we want to find heather and you know that's the main goal."

Cannon was reported missing on Aug. 27, 2009, from Athens. She would be 28 years old now, according to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
