OFFICIALS: Phone used to make threat against Henderson ISD campuses found in Europe

According to the school district, all students and staff are safe and they have returned to their regular class schedules.

HENDERSON, Texas — Law enforcement determined that the phone used to make a threat against Henderson ISD Wednesday was in Europe and nowhere near any of the campuses.

On Wednesday morning, the Henderson Police Department received information about a possible threat. Other agencies, including the Rusk County Sheriff's Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety and the FBI, along with Henderson police tried to track down where the threat came from.

Investigators were able to determine the phone used to make the threat was in Europe. School officials then lifted the lockdown and continued with their school day at 1:30 p.m., Henderson ISD said in a news release.

"While this was very inconvenient for our staff, students and their families, our top priority remains the safety of the HISD family. We appreciate everyone’s efforts today which helped ensure the day went smoothly in spite of the many obstacles that arose," Henderson ISD said. "We also appreciate the Henderson Police Department and our campus SROs for their unwavering dedication to the safety and protection of our staff and students."

The school district thanked HISD families for their understanding and cooperation, especially in stressful times.
