SMITH COUNTY — A Lindale woman pleaded guilty to felony charges stemming from a November incident involving the theft of a Lindale Police Department patrol vehicle.

Nichole Kelsey Wood, 18, pleaded guilty Monday in open court to aggravated assault against a public servant, escape causing bodily injury and escape cause bodily injury, according to Smith County judicial records.

Judicial records indicate a pre-sentencing investigation was ordered.

Lindale police were investigating a suspicious vehicle call at Pool Park about 11 p.m. Nov. 25 when they found Kelsey Wood with alcohol and tobacco products. She was cited for the misdemeanor offenses and police took her home to be released to a responsible adult.

While officers were talking to her guardian, Wood climbed into the front of the patrol unit and fled the scene. Woods also injured an officer who was trying to stop her from taking the vehicle.

Police said Wood drove south on Boyd Street, lost control and crashed into a tree. She got out of the car and ran, but later was found in the Brookshire's parking lot and arrested.

Wood was indicted Feb. 1 by the grand jury.

She was held in the Smith County Jail on bonds totaling $185,000.

The court has not set a sentencing date, according to judicial records.
