Texas DPS Troopers arrested a man wearing body armor and in possession of multiple firearms and ammo on Tuesday.
A Texas DPS Trooper conducted a traffic stop on a suspicious person on highway 155 in Tyler.
As the trooper was talking to the suspect, he saw a black bag in the front passenger seat. The bag was open and in plain view allowing the trooper to see two handguns and several handgun magazines. The trooper was able to secure the weapons.
Once the weapons were secured the trooper requested assistance from the Smith County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies and detectives responded to assist.
While conducting the interview, the suspect made several statements regarding threats against himself and others.
The suspect was wearing body armor and was found to be in possession of multiple firearms, including both pistols and rifles. He was also in possession of several high capacity magazines and multiple knives.
The suspect was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for evaluation since he is believed to be a danger to himself and others. After an evaluation is complete he will be placed in the Smith County Jail on weapons charges.
