TxDOT "Live, Breathe Texas Road Trip' shows drivers how vehicle emissions affect air quality

TxDOT campaign shows people how their driving habits are causing poor air quality in Texas.

TYLER — Summertime has more people outside and on the road, which leads poor air quality.

"Where we don't necessarily have a lot of air pollution from refineries and things like that you know it's important that we note to that vehicle emissions you know count for a lot of air pollution that we see across the state," Kathi White, TxDOT public information officer, said.

TxDOT has created a campaign to help drivers learn what they're doing to cause pollution and the steps they can take to reduce harmful emissions.

"This is our Live & Breathe Texas Road Trip Tour and we are just spreading the message about ah the environment and trying to keep our air quality clean here in Texas," White said.

The Tyler and Longview area is one of six in the state of Texas close to failing the federal air quality standards.

White said it's simple things that people can stop doing to help reduce harmful vehicle emissions.

"Don't idle your vehicle when you're in the drive through, you know if you have to get out and go in," White said. "The big thing is to maintain your vehicle and even change your driving habits you know no hard braking just kind of gradually do all these things and just kind of take care of the air."
