Union Grove ISD gathering gift cards after Upshur County family with students loses home in fire

Superintendent Kelly Moore said all members of the Uribe family, including a high school senior and fifth-grade student, were able to get out safely.

UNION GROVE, Texas — Union Grove ISD is collecting gift cards after a family with students in the school district lost their home Wednesday night.

Superintendent Kelly Moore said all members of the Uribe family, including a high school senior and fifth-grade student, were able to get out safely. According to the Gilmer Fire Department, the home on FM 1844 in Upshur County is considered a total loss.

Following the loss, Moore said the school is collecting gift cards at both campus offices and through UGISD administration building. Those wanting to donate can drop the cards off at any of the three locations.

Using the gift cards, family members can purchase any clothing items they need, Moore said.

"Please remember this family in your thoughts and prayers. As always, I know this school and community will come together to lift this family up," Moore said.

The Gilmer Fire Department said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
