Whitehouse paints the town red in honor of hometown football star Patrick Mahomes ahead of Super Bowl Sunday

Ahead of the big event, students and staff at Whitehouse schools donned their best Chiefs gear and wore red this past week.

WHITEHOUSE, Texas — Whitehouse ISD students and staff along with several local businesses painted the town red this past week to celebrate hometown star and Kansas City Chiefs Patrick Mahomes.

Mahomes, a Whitehouse native and Whitehouse High School alumni, and his teammates will take on the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday during the NFL's biggest game of the year. The game kicks off at 5:30 p.m. on CBS19.

Ahead of the big event, students and staff at Whitehouse schools donned their best Chiefs gear and wore red this past week. Local businesses, the city of Whitehouse and other groups also joined in on the fun and took photos with a large cardboard cutout of Mahomes, which has been nicknamed "Flat Pat."

Several photos were shared with the Whitehouse Area Chamber of Commerce as a part of the #PaintTheTownRed initiative. Check out the gallery below:
