The following was released by the Longview ISD:
The employment of Dr. Robert Craig Varnell, a high school science teacher and UIL coordinator, ended Thursday following his arrest in Upshur County. Varnell was charged with sexual assault and indecency with a child. Though the charges are just that, Varnell submitted and the district immediately accepted his resignation. At this time, the district is reviewing allegations to determine what, if any additional action might be necessary.
