The Smith County Sheriff’s Office confirms a suspect is being held at the Smith County Jail after leading deputies on a car chase that ended in a crash.

The suspect has been identified as 32-year-old Dabrett Black of Lindale. He is charged with evading arrest, aggravated assault against a public servant and reckless driving.

According to deputies the chase started on northbound Lavender Road on Sunday morning around 3:00 a.m. Authorities say the chase started when a deputy tried stopping Black for speeding and defective equipment.

Deputies say Black sped off and turned westbound on Anne Campbell Road. They say he proceeded to turn off his headlights and drive on the wrong side of the road.

The chase finally ended when Black struck a deputy’s car, that was stopped on the westbound shoulder of Anne Campbell Road.

The deputy and Black were both transported to nearby hospitals and were later released. Deputies said no one suffered serious injuries.
