VERIFY | Are the immunocompromised at a lower risk of contracting COVID-19 with recent CDC guidelines?

Those with a compromised immune system still need to take extra safety precautions.

Current CDC guidelines say if you have COVID, once you are without a fever you can remove yourself from isolation. But those who are immunocompromised still need to watch out. Even though the guidelines have relaxed that doesn't mean those around you should also relax their measures of protection too.

THE QUESTION

Is it true that those who are immunocompromised are now at a lower risk of contracting COVID-19 after the relaxation of CDC guidelines?

THE SOURCES

THE ANSWER

FALSE

WHAT WE FOUND

Dr. Pitt told us anyone who is immunocompromised is still at higher risk of complications from COVID-19.

"You're also at higher risk of having a more severe illness than someone who isn't immunocompromised, namely in part because you're at higher risk of heart disease and other complications like pneumonia," said Pitt.

Dr. Cohen stressed protecting those who are most vulnerable must continue and the CDC website said, "We still must use the commonsense solutions we know work to protect ourselves and others from serious illness from respiratory viruses—this includes vaccination, treatment, and staying home when we get sick."

So no, it is false. Those who are immunocompromised are not at a lower risk of contracting COVID-19 after the relaxation of CDC guidelines.
