At least 3 hurt, 1 critically, in crash involving semi at Toll 49, HWY 110

The roadway has since reopened.

SMITH COUNTY, Texas — At least three people have been hospitalized after a major multi-vehicle crash involving an 18-wheeler on Toll 49, near Highway 110 in Smith County.

The Texas Department of Public Safety responded to the accident around 12:45 p.m. DPS tells CBS19 three vehicles were involved in the wreck.

According to DPS, an SUV traveling northbound on Toll 49 crossed into the southbound lane and struck a semi head-on.

After the initial collision, the SUV also hit a pickup truck.

The driver of the SUV was flown to an area hospital and is in critical condition.

The driver of the semi was taken to a local hospital by an ambulance. His condition is unknown at this time.

The driver of the pickup drove himself to the hospital and is stable.

The crash is under investigation.
