1 dead, 1 injured in 2-vehicle crash in Cherokee County

Officials said Ronterreal Mumphrey, 36, was pronounced dead after a two-vehicle crash on State Highway 21, just five miles west of Alto on Oct. 28.

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Texas — One person is dead and one person is injured after a two-vehicle crash in Cherokee County Saturday night.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Ronterreal Mumphrey, 36, from Alto was pronounced dead after a two-vehicle crash on State Highway 21, just five miles west of Alto on Oct. 28.

DPS said Marga Skinner Johnson, 71, from Alto, had impaired visibility as she was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe southwest on State Highway 21 and didn't see Mumphrey's vehicle in front of her.

Mumphrey was driving a 2007 Honda when Johnson struck his vehicle in the rear and was ejected from his vehicle, DPS said. 

Johnson was taken to a hospital in Jacksonville to treat her condition. 

Thie investigation is ongoing.
