Tyler residents getting some extra help cleaning storm damage

The Texas Baptist Men came to Tyler to provide extra assistance to those in need.

TYLER, Texas — Many Tyler residents are still looking for ways to clean up fallen trees and other debris from Tuesday night's storm. But for some, they simply don't have the funds or equipment necessary to clear everything out.

"We’ve got bids from anywhere from $6,000 to $8,500 … and we’re just like, how are we going to pay for this?,"  said homeowner Michael Hart.

However, the Texas Baptist Men organization heard the news of the storm hitting Tyler and quickly made their way over to lend a hand. The group meets at Green Acres Baptist Church in the morning, where they discuss their plans for the day. Once the locations are finalized, they make their way out into the community and begin their work.

"We have about 20 people here right now. Skiploaders, man lifts that lift people way up high into the trees so they can cut down dangerous limbs," said David Olsen.

Olsen and his wife Lois are two of the volunteers from the Texas Baptist Men. The Olsens and all the others from the organization are all volunteers. As part of their mission, all their work is done free of charge, making it easier for these residents to get by.

"There’s a lot of need right now in Tyler," David Olsen said. "And we appreciate the whole community coming together to support those who have been affected in a disastrous way during this storm."

The Texas Baptist Men will remain in Tyler through next week to continue providing help for those in need.

To contact them for help or further information, give them a call at 972-639-7972 for the volunteers to lend a hand.
