Matthew McConaughey wishes Longview Lobos 'good luck' in UIL State Championship game

LONGVIEW — It seems as though all of East Texas has gotten behind the Longview Lobos as they get ready to take on the Beaumont West Brook Bruins on Saturday for the 6A Division II UIL Football State Championship.

But, Longview Independent School District's most famous alum just took Lobo fandom to another level.

On Thursday, Matthew McConaughey, Longview High School class of 1988, recorded a video from the streets of London, England, wishing his alma mater good luck and provided a little advice ahead of this weekend's matchup.

"I want you to make sure you take some time to get your mind right and your souls right," McConaughey says. "What I'm talking about is, bend that knee, take a minute and look inside. Think about your families. Think about why you love the game of football. So many people are so proud of you. Feel that, know that!"

He ended the clip by saying, "Be in the moment. Go win it. We love you!"

The undefeated Lobos will go head-to-head against the Bruins (13-2) at 3:00 p.m. at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. If you can't watch the game in person, you can watch the contest live on Fox Sports Southwest. "The Voice of the Longhorns," Craig Way will provide the play-by-play alongside analyst Gary Reasons with reporters Sarah Merrifield and CT Steckel.
