21-year-old man arrested for injuring family member during a shooting in Palestine

Palestine Police Chief Mark Harcrow said this incident appears to have been a family dispute that escalated into an aggravated assault.

PALESTINE, Texas — One person was arrested after shooting a family member in the neck during a dispute in Palestine Saturday night.

Officers responded to a report of gunshot fired in the 2400 block of Crockett Road around 9:30 p.m. On the scene, officers found a 28-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the neck, according to the Palestine Police Department

During the investigation, officers learned an argument broke out between the victim and the suspect inside the residence. A witness on the scene confirmed Jacob Serralde, 21, was the person who shot the victim, officials said.

Serralde was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon-family violence and was taken to the Anderson County Jail.

“This appeared to have been a family dispute that escalated into an aggravated assault. I commend the Officers for their quick response and apprehending the suspect safely," said Mark Harcrow, Palestine Police Department Chief.

The victim was previously in critical condition but is now in a stable condition, police said.
