Over $60k raised for the Salvation Army at annual style show fundraiser

TYLER, Texas — The Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary held their annual style show fundraiser on Monday, raising roughly $60k for the Salvation Army.

The volunteer group was established in 1986 with the goal to support the mission of The Salvation Army in Tyler.

This years style show theme was "Winning the Race to Bless Another". Participants dressed in Kentucky Derby fashion and served as both jockeys and trainers while modeling some spring fashion choices.

Event Co-Chair, Kathy Atherton said “It’s a wonderful experience, working with other Christian women. It’s so fun! I love the enthusiasm of the women who volunteer with me, and it really reenergizes me to continue to do the Lord’s work because we see how much it helps the people in need in our community. There are so many people here that are willing to help. It’s just amazing!”

Attendees were able to bid on their favorite outfits and donate items for a silent auction.

“The ladies worked really hard getting donations and sponsors and the community always really backs us up. Seeing all the ladies come together and make it such a great success, that’s really my favorite part. As far as impact, it’s great that we made as much as we did because summer months are usually slow. Getting this money really helps a lot because we operate 24/7, 365 days a year, so every little bit helps. I’m so thankful for the Auxiliary and all their hard work. I’m just so thankful and appreciative.” Michelle Walker, Commanding Officer of The Salvation Army in Tyler said.

The next event for the Women’s Auxiliary is their annual Spring Sale at the Salvation Army in Tyler’s campus, April 26-27 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. all proceeds will go into serving the community.
