OFFICIALS: East Texas athletic trainer arrested for child sexual assault stemming from improper relationship with student

Kyle Kingrey was booked into the Cherokee County Jail on $100,000 bond.

JACKSONVILLE, Texas — **EDITOR'S NOTE: A previous version of this article stated the trainer was employed by Jacksonville ISD. The trainer is not a district employee, but provides services to Jacksonville ISD through an outside entity. 

A local athletic trainer has been arrested for child sexual assault stemming from an alleged improper relationship with a student.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, in July 2023, officials were contacted by the Jacksonville ISD Police Department, regrading a reported inappropriate relationship between an athletic trainer and a student.

Following an investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for Kyle Kingrey on Nov. 7 for sexual assault of a child. Kingrey was arrested the following day at his home He was booked into the Cherokee County Jal on $100,000 bond.

Jacksonville ISD released the following statement to CBS19:

"Jacksonville ISD is aware of the arrest of an individual who previously provided services to the District and who has not been on a JISD campus this school year.   We are cooperating with local law enforcement agencies who are handling the investigation, and we have no further information to share at this time.  This matter is still under the investigation of local authorities.  JISD reiterates that the health and safety of our students always remain a paramount priority for our school district and for our community as a whole."

The investigation is ongoing.
