Deputies investigating infant's death in Smith County

According to the sheriff's office, deputies arrived to the 15000 block of James Ray Drive around 7:30 a.m. to find an infant not breathing.

SMITH COUNTY, Texas — The Smith County Sheriff's Office is investigating an infant's death after they were found unresponsive early Tuesday morning. 

According to the sheriff's office, deputies arrived to the 15000 block of James Ray Drive around 7:30 a.m. to find an infant not breathing. A justice of the peace was called and the infant was pronounced dead. 

Smith County Sheriff Larry Smith said the Crime Scene Unit is investigating the death and the child's body was sent off for an autopsy.
