Early voting concludes for Texas primary election

In Gregg County, this year's early voting numbers surpassed the primaries in 2022 and 2020. A total of 7,088 people voted early.

TYLER, Texas — Early voting for the 2024 March primary election has concluded, but voters still have time to cast their ballots on Election Day in East Texas.

In Smith County, 15,650 people voted early as of Thursday. According to past results, 18,611 cast their ballots early in the 2022 primary, while during the 2020 March election, 19,056 voted early.

Smith County Elections Administrator Michelle Allcon said the early voting numbers have been down this year from the 2020 and 2022 primaries. That's despite an increase in the number of registered voters since those elections.

Those who didn't make it out there Friday will have many options come Election Day on Tuesday.

"On Election Day, they will just need to bring their photo IDs and we have 38 polling places open across the county," Allcon said. "The entire list of those are available on our website. We also have an interactive map for voters, they can they can put in their address, their work address, their children’s school, and they can see the polling places that are closest to them on Election Day."

In Gregg County, this year's early voting numbers surpassed the primaries in 2022 and 2020. A total of 7,088 people voted early. In 2022, 6,762 residents voted early in March and in 2020, 6,709 people cast their ballots.
