East Texas high school band instructor pleads guilty to sexually exploiting multiple students

Court information said Brandon Sams, 48, admitted to touching several of his students inappropriately.

TEXARKANA, Texas — An East Texas high school band instructor pleaded guilty Tuesday to sexually exploiting multiple students in federal court.

Brandon Neil Sams, 48, entered a guilty plea to coercion and enticement of a minor. Court documents say he was the band instructor at Texas High School in Texarkana when he made repeated attempts to coerce and entice several of his students to engage in sexual activity, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. 

Court information said Sams admitted to touching several of his students inappropriately. According to the news release, Sams would also communicate with the students on social media and messaging apps to persuade, induce, entice and coerce them to participate in sexual acts. 

He faces up to life in federal prison. A sentencing hearing will be held after presentence investigation by the U.S. Probation Office is completed. The Department of Homeland Security-Homeland Security Investigations and the Texarkana Independent School District investigated the case.
