CHEROKEE COUNTY, Texas — An East Texas man is dead after being struck by a vehicle in Cherokee County.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, on Thursday, Feb. 15, around 10:15 p.m., troopers were called to SH 110, near Ponta, on reports of a crash involving a pedestrian.
DPS reports a pickup towing a trailer, driven by Harrison Carpenter, 24, of Bryan, was traveling north on SH 110. At the same time a man, identified as Mark McGowan, 38, of Jacksonville, was walking south on SH 110 in the northbound lane when he was struck by the truck.
McGowan was pronounced dead at the scene. Carpenter was not injured.
The investigation is ongoing.
