Family grieves after boy killed in Tyler hit and run

"He had his whole life ahead of him."

TYLER — One Tyler family is grieving after a boy was killed in a hit and run over the weekend. Tyler police found Damarion Williams, 11, in the median of Highway 271 on June 17.

"He's a good kid. He's a joyful kid. He was just 11 years old. He had a whole life ahead of him. I looked at him as being just a baby," said Liz Hutchinson, Damarion's aunt.

A warrant was issued for 21-year-old Josue Alejandro Prado Ramirez of Athens. Information from witnesses led investigators to Ramirez’ vehicle in Athens.

He has been charged with Accident Involving Death which is a second-degree felony. Ramirez’ bond was set at $250,000.

Hutchinson said the boy was walking home that night, and never made it.

To drivers, she said always double check surroundings.

"Just look at your speed. It's a busy high way daily," she said. "I just pray that someone will take this story, and pray to other kids. If they leave, please don't walk alone."

Williams' family set up a GoFundMe account to help with funeral expenses. Donations can also be made to the Community Funeral Home of Tyler at 1429 N. Border Ave.
