KILGORE, Texas — Kilgore ISD is addressing a meme circulating on Facebook that features disinformation regarding the recent acquisition of electric school buses.
The district announced Thursday they are adding electric school buses to their fleet.
Thanks to a $1,580,000 grant through the EPA's Clean Bus Program, the district will be able to purchase four EV buses and the necessary charging equipment.
KISD says the buses can travel up to 120 miles between charges.
However, a recent meme with false information posted in one of the All Things Longview Facebook groups by a self-proclaimed "digital creator" is getting the attention of parents.
The creator of the graphic, who's known for continuously posting memes online, made a post stating the district's new buses would be self-driving, which is untrue.
"Bulldog Community, it has come to our attention that the following graphic is being circulated in the East Texas area," KISD said. "This information is false and misleading. This graphic was not produced or shared by Kilgore ISD.
