Longview man sentenced to 40 years in prison for fatal January 2022 shooting

Dominique Sheffield, 30, pleaded guilty to murder Wednesday in connection with the Jan. 24, 2022 shooting death of Cedric Evers.

LONGVIEW, Texas — A Longview man was sentenced to 40 years in prison for the shooting death of a 32-year-old man in January 2022. 

Dominique Sheffield, 30, pleaded guilty to murder Wednesday in connection with the Jan. 24, 2022 shooting death of Cedric Evers. After entering his plea, Sheffield was sentenced to 40 years, according to Gregg County judicial records. 

Sheffield was charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after a shooting in the 2200 block of South 12th Street in Longview, police said. 

The Longview News-Journal reported two victims, including Evers, were found with multiple gunshot wounds and taken to a local hospital. Evers later died from his injuries and the other victim was in stable condition at the time. 

Detectives received an arrest warrant for Sheffield and Smith County deputies found him on Jan. 25, 2022. He was booked into the Smith County Jail and later transferred to Gregg County, according to the News-Journal.
