Man accused of threatening people with butcher-style knife at East Texas park arrested

When he refused to follow orders, an officer used 40mm less lethal launcher that hit the man in the stomach, causing him to immediately fall to the ground.

KILGORE, Texas — A man accused of threatening people, including police officers, with a butcher-style knife was arrested at a Kilgore park Tuesday night.

According to the Kilgore Police Department, the man was actively threatening several people at the downtown city park. When he refused to follow orders, an officer used a 40mm less lethal launcher that hit the man in the stomach, causing him to immediately fall to the ground.

The man was then taken into custody. Officers learned he had large butcher style knife. He was charged with three counts of aggravated assault.

"We want to commend newly promoted Cpl. Isbell for his actions last night. His use of this less lethal device quickly brought this situation under control without having to resort to higher levels of force," the police department said on Facebook.
