Power outage at Smith County Elections Office not affecting early voting

Electricity at The Hub in Tyler went out around 2:30 p.m., and all voting machines automatically kicked over to run off backup batteries.

TYLER, Texas — Officials say a power outage at the Smith County Elections Office and The Hub is not affecting voters Thursday.

Electricity at The Hub, located at 304 E. Ferguson St. in Tyler, went out around 2:30 p.m., and all voting machines automatically kicked over to run off backup batteries as well as the computers in the Election’s Office, according to Smith County.

There's plenty of light from the windows in The Hub for voters to see, Smith County Elections Administrator Michelle Allcon said. Battery-operated lighting is available to use if necessary.

Polls for the Smith County Pct. 3 commissioner Republican runoff race are open until 7 p.m.  Thursday as well as from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday. The other polling location is at Lindale’s Kinzie Community Center, at 912 Mt. Sylvan St., in Lindale.

Polls are open on Election Day (Tuesday, May 28) from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Tom Trimble from Oncor said a transformer issue might have caused a feeder lockout. This also affected North Front Street and Beckman Ave. as well, causing power loss.
