TYLER, Texas — Law enforcement in Smith County came together Wednesday afternoon to reflect on the sacrifices of their fallen colleagues.

The Smith County Peace Officers Association held a ceremony on the downtown Tyler square to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Once again, we of the law enforcement family are gathered in this place to pay homage to our brothers and sisters out across this great nation who have made the ultimate sacrifice," Smith County Sheriff Larry Smith said. "Both men and women who have carried the cause of justice in the grave deserve, not only respect but our heartfelt gratitude and affection."

Some of the officers honored included Smith County Deputy Walter L. Terry, Constable Dale David Geddie and Smith County Deputy Lorenzo Bustos among the 15 Smith County officers recognized.

The ceremony honored each of the officers who died in the line of duty and also featured the national anthem, a 21-gun salute and a trumpet playing Taps.
