SPCA of East Texas temporarily halts intakes as they tend to more than 200 animals in their care

"One recent critical rescue of 17 neglected animals quickly turned in 33 as four of them were pregnant," the SPCA of East Texas said.

TYLER, Texas — The SPCA of East Texas has temporarily halted intakes as they tend to the more than 200 animals currently in their care.

"With over 200+ animals in our program at this time (many of them medical cases), it is difficult for us to keep up with the astronomical food and medical costs," SPCA of East Texas director of operations Kay Crotelyou said. "One recent critical rescue of 17 neglected animals quickly turned in 33 as four of them were pregnant. The need for donations and foster homes is great and until we can get some of our fur babies placed into their forever homes, we are just unable to take on any more expenses."

If you are needing help with an animal, the SPCA of East Texas has a list of resources on their website at:  https://spcaeasttx.com/surrender-a-pet/.

"We also suggest you reach out to some breed specific rescues if you know the breed of the animal," Cortelyou said.

To donate to the SPCA of East Texas, click here or stop by their headquarters at 3245 W. Grande Blvd. They also have wish lists posted on their website, Chewy and Amazon.

"We are working as hard as we can to get to a place where we can reopen intake, but we cannot do it without your help," Cortelyou said.
"Please consider helping us in any way you can, so that we may continue with these important lifesaving missions."
