Sen. Ted Cruz speaks to Smith County Republicans about border security, spending and his upcoming election

In November, Sen. Cruz is set to face off against Democratic challenger Colin Allred.

TYLER, Texas — U.S. Senator Ted Cruz spoke to a group of Smith County Republicans on Saturday.

Sen. Cruz was at the Hollytree Country Club in Tyler speaking about border security, spending and his upcoming election. 

Sen. Cruz was in Washington D.C. late Friday night voting against the 1.2 trillion package that would advert a government shutdown. Sen. Cruz and other Republicans tried to pass amendments to the bill regarding homeland security. 

"We forced the democrats to vote on amendment after amendment," Cruz said.

In November, Sen. Cruz is set to face off against Democratic challenger Colin Allred.

"Right now, Allred has raised over $22 million, the Democrats plan to spend over $100 million in Texas,"

Sen. Cruz also spoke about how important it is for Republicans to vote this November. 

"Keep standing up. Keep speaking out. Use your voices," Cruz said.
