Navigating the return process of holiday gifts

According to Mechele Mills from the Better Business Bureau (BBB) of Central East Texas, the clock is ticking for post-Christmas returns.

TYLER, Texas — Now that the joy of Christmas has faded and the wrapping paper has settled, many are turning their attention to returning gifts.

According to Better Business Bureau (BBB) of Central East Texas CEO Mechele Mills, the clock is ticking for post-Christmas returns.

"It’s essential to be aware that the refund date begins at the time of purchase, not when the gift is presented," Mills said.

Mills emphasizes that while most places in East Texas have a return policy, it’s crucial to know the terms beforehand to avoid surprises. She also notes that retailers in Texas aren’t obligated to have a return policy, making it an act of goodwill if they do.

While major retailers like JC Penney’s and Dillard’s witness a surge in returns, local businesses like Muddy Poncho shares a different story.

Muddy Poncho owner, Luis Saavedra reveals that they are experiencing increased sales and zero returns. He expressed his gratitude for the community’s support and emphasized the overwhelming success of their holiday season.

As you navigate through return lines, Mills urges shoppers to remain patient with retailers since this year there is expected to be a record of returns.
