West Tyler businesses continue working after boil water notice

True Vine Brewing Company is offering clean water to people impacted by boil water notice.

TYLER, Texas — Thousands of residents in west Tyler are still under a boil water notice after a water line burst Monday morning and caused massive damage to the sidewalk and part of the road in front of Sam’s Club off Loop 323 in Tyler.

On Tuesday, the city of Tyler said the pipe that broke causing the boil water notice was fixed and samples of water have been taken to the lab. However, the boil water notice is still in effect.

"Based on when that repair is completed, that will determine when we can take some of those samples that we need to take so that we can then rescind the boil water notice," City of Tyler Utilities Director Kate Dietz said.

True Vine Brewing Company is one of the almost 3,400 connections affected. General Manager Kelly Clark said that hasn’t stopped them from helping the community.

"This tank here, we collect the water from the city. It comes in a pipe from the back that you can’t really see," Clark said. "What we are offering to the community, is that if you can bring your own container of up to five gallons we will fill it up for you. It will be warm water because it’s still going to be a little bit hot, but it is drinkable, usable, you can use it however you please and we would love to give away as much of it as we can."

Across the street at Lemon Yellow Latin Bites, co-owner Tahidi Perez said it's business as usual for the most part.

"We are not doing the empanadas, and the arepas right now because everything is with water," Perez said.

Perez said Tuesdays are usually preps days for the weekend rush.

"We don’t know if it’s enough for the rest of the week," Perez said.

In the meantime, they’re taking all the steps they can to stay open.

"We have the water here and boiling water over here. This one is beef and we boil the water before we cooked it," Perez said.
