UT Tyler hosts 2nd annual Engineering Olympics event

UT Tyler engineering students constructed boats made out of duct tape, spray paint and cardboard putting their skills to the test at Harvey Lake.

TYLER, Texas — On Saturday, UT Tyler hosted their 2nd annual Engineering Olympics showcasing an array of brains and creativity.

Duct tape, spray paint and cardboard is what UT Tyler engineering students utilized to create their boats at Harvey Lake.

More than 400 students, ranging from freshman to seniors, majoring in construction management, chemical, civil, electrical and mechanical engineering were in attendance competing in the event.

"We're going to be racing, we going to go around that buoy. Our plan is to get in as fast as we can and come back around and try to win first place," The Little Mermaid teammate Jason Rivera said.

Delek US was this year's sponsor who will present the College of Engineering a $12,500 gift for continuously partnering in student success.

This event was centered around enhancing STEM skills along with leadership tactics many future engineers will need when entering the field.
