Wheelchair accessible vehicle manufacturer receives tax abatement to expand to Tyler Interstate Commerce Park

Tyler Economic Development Council President and CEO Scott Martinez said the new addition will add 74 new jobs with average salaries of $53,000.

TYLER, Texas — BraunAbility, a wheelchair accessible vehicle manufacturer, is expanding to add a facility inside the Tyler Interstate Commerce Park.

The company is currently based at 12813 State Highway 64 near Tyler Pounds Regional Airport. That facility employs 68 employees.

On Tuesday, the Smith County Commissioners Court approved a 10-year tax abatement that will go toward building BraunAbility's planned 140,000 square foot building.

The building will sit on about 29 acres within the 412-acre industrial park, located at the southwest intersection of Interstate 20 and State Highway 155.

Tyler Economic Development Council President and CEO Scott Martinez said the new addition will add 74 new jobs with average salaries of $53,000.

The commissioners approved the 10-year tax abatement that will run from January 2026 to Dec. 31, 2035.

The breakdown of the abatement is 80 percent for the first four years, 60 percent for the next two years, 40 percent for the next two years and 20 percent for the final two years, Martinez said.

Martinez explained that SunCap Property Group will build the property and make a long-term lease for the BraunAbility. Commissioners also approved that part of the project.

He called the addition a testament to the importance of partnerships, such as how the TEDC and Smith County worked together to make a road for the Tyler Interstate Commerce Park.
