Texas Rose Festival October 18 to 21: Meet the Court

TYLER (TYLER PAPER) - Young women from Tyler families are featured in the Texas Rose Festival as the rose queen, duchess of the rose festival and the ladies-in-waiting.

These members of the queen's court, along with queen's attendants, the out-of-town duchesses and their escorts will take center stage during Queen's Coronation, the formal presentation of the women in their custom-made gowns culminating with the crowning of Haley McGrede Anderson as queen of the 2012 Texas Rose Festival.

"Indochine: Year of the Dragon" is the theme of the coronation, which plays out on a lavish set at The University of Texas at Tyler's R. Down Cowan Fine & Performing Arts Center. The coronation matinee, technically a dress rehearsal, is set for 2 p.m. and the Queen's Coronation at 7 p.m., both on Oct. 19.
Members of the queen's court will also be featured during the Rose Parade and Queen's Tea, both set for Oct. 20.


ROSE QUEEN

Haley McGrede Anderson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rowe McGrede Anderson, is a communications and marketing major at The University of Alabama and a graduate of All Saints Episcopal School. She is a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and Marvin United Methodist Church.

While at the University of Alabama, Miss Anderson volunteered in disaster relief efforts after a tornado struck Tuscaloosa, Ala. Miss Ramey has an extensive background in dance having both danced at Dance-N-Drill for 16 years and worked as a dance instructor assistant.
