POLK COUNTY, Texas — One person is dead after a two-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon in Polk County.
According to DPS, the crash happened at about 1:40 p.m. at US 59 and Farm-to-Market Road 357.
DPS says a Mercedes-Benz was traveling west and trying to cross US 59 when it was hit by a Peterbilt truck that was traveling southbound on US 59.
The driver of the Mercedes-Benz was pronounced dead at the scene, but their identity is not being released at this time.
The driver of the Peterbilt, 71-year-old Steve Lacombe, was not hurt in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
According to TxDOT, there was a HAZMAT situation at the scene of the crash. US 59 at FM 1987 will be closed beginning at midnight to clean up the scene. The closure will last for one hour.
