Hurricane preparedness week is May 9th - 15th

Are you ready for hurricane season? May 9th - 15th the CBS19 team will have reminders to prepare you for the months ahead

TYLER, Texas — The week of May 9th - 15th is National Hurricane Preparedness week. Throughout the week, the CBS19 weather team will have a few reminders to get you ready for tropical storm season.

Do you have a hurricane safety kit? Now is a good time to check and update things. FEMA and NOAA recommend a few of the following items:

  • One gallon of water per person, per day. Don't forget to include your pets! Depending on the severity of the storm, you may need to evacuate for three days or up to two weeks.
  • Non-perishable food items. Take into account any special items you may need for infants of toddlers.
  • A flashlight or battery powered light source - plus, extra batteries on hand.
  • First aid kit that includes your medications and prescriptions along with copies of personal documents including emergency contact information.
  • Extra fuel for your car and those generators as well as cash on hand. If you do own a generator, now would be the time for regular maintenance to make sure everything is in working order.

Check in with the CBS19 Weather team throughout the rest of the week as we will have more tips to share!
