RUSK COUNTY, Texas — EDITOR'S NOTE: The video above aired on May 20, 2022.
An East Texas jail is under a non-compliance notice due to staff not being properly trained in their positions.
According to the Texas Commission on Jail Standards, the notice was issued to Rusk County Jail on Nov. 21 for not providing proper training to all its staff members.
The Mental Disabilities/Suicide Prevention Plan for Rusk County states training is provided to each officer upon employment and presented to all detention officers for one hour, at least once annually.
The Texas Commission on Jail Standards said the administration could not produce records showing that all staff received one hour of training for 2022. The administration could only verify that four staff members out of 27 received proper training in that area.
