Winona ISD names athletic director, head football coach

Kenneth Cook, who has been an "integral part of Winona High School" for the past seven years, officially became the next athletic director and head football coach.

WINONA, Texas — Winona ISD trustees named its new athletic director and head football coach during their Thursday board meeting. 

Kenneth Cook, who has been an "integral part of Winona High School" for the past seven years, officially became the next athletic director and head football coach with unanimous support. 

Cook started teaching and coaching at Chapel Hill High School, where he spent eight years. During his time there, he was an assistant coach and special teams coordinator. He played an instrumental role in the football program's wins like the state championship in 3A Division 1 football in 2011 and achieving the state runner-up position in 2010.

At Winona High School, Cook has been a defensive coordinator, head track coach and a U.S. History instructor. While he was the defensive coordinator, the football team reached the state quarterfinals in 2016, which matches the best playoff run in school history. 

In 2023, the Winona 4x4 meter relay team qualified for the state competition under Cook's leadership. 

Cook graduated from Gilmer High School. He and his wife Dana have three children together.
