South Tyler Route to change to better serve veterans and businesses along Centennial Parkway

Also known as Route 12, changes to the route, signs and bus stops will be moved across the Centennial Parkway to the north side.

TYLER, Texas — Editor's Note: Video above not related to article, aired on Oct. 2021.

Starting April 1st, a Tyler Transit route will alter to provide service to the Department of Veteran Affairs and other businesses along Centennial Parkway.

The South Tyler Route, also known as Route 12, will change the entering route into the Villages at Cumberland Park by using the second entrance instead of entering at the first light, and going north every half hour.

By April 1st, the Tyler Transit will move signs and bus stops across the Centennial Parkway to the north side.

"Tyler Transit has a lot of activity on Centennial Parkway, but the bus stops are across the street from many of the businesses riders are trying to reach," said Tyler Transit Director, Russ Jackson. "We need to help those with special accommodations, like our veterans, have better access, so we're piloting a new direction for that stretch of road in the South Tyler Route. This also allows for a quicker flow for the buses to make their routes. By moving down to the second entrance, we will be speeding up that particular bus's times of service into other areas of its route."

In addition to the route changes, veterans will receive a Tyler R.O.S.E (Recognizing Our Service Members Everyday) Discount Card for discounted route rides. According to the Tyler Transit, the Tyler R.O.S.E. Discount Card is a partnership between the Tyler Chamber of Commerce and CampV.

Currently, Tyler Transit fares are:

  • Adult 12 and older: $1
  • Children age six to 11: $0.50
  • Children age five and under: Free
  • Medicare, Seniors (65 and older), and Persons with Disabilities: $0.50

For more information about the discount card, visit the Chamber's website.
